What I Would Do For Migraines If I Had Millions #NHBPM Day 6
Today’s topic is very interesting. If money weren't an issue, what could I do to help Migraine disease and headache disorders? After much thought, by George, I think I've got it. I would overhaul the Migraine and headache education program that is currently in every medical school in the country.
First, I would change the name from ‘headache’ medicine to ‘Migraine and headache’ medicine – let’s call it MAHM. There is a huge difference between Migraine and headache; the sooner this notion is changed the better off everyone will be. I would then mandate that every medical school include a more comprehensive MAHM education program into their curriculum. The four hours students receive now is unacceptable. For subspecialties, like neurology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, rheumatology and others, additional, more exhaustive MAHM would be required. In addition to MAHM pathophysiology, education and prevention, all doctors in the subspeciality programs would learn about chronic illness and coping skills. Once they are “trained” in this area and when start using these skills in their daily practice, their patients will thank them.
Now how can I make this a reality? I personally cannot. But I can continue to to have the privledge to help educate people about Migraine disease and headache disorders.
